Reflective Writing

There are so many interesting activities in University for you to try. I’m the kind of person that is always excited about any new stuff and I would to try very single activity that I’m interested in. Although I plan ahead, my schedule is totally full in the end. Most of the time, I’m just so tired or have no time for study. Seniors have reminded me that I’m a university student first, then a dancer, cheerleader etc. So choice making and time management become more important to me now.

Here comes the new semester. It’s a fresh start for me to something new – a more organized lifestyle.

Firstly, I have a new mindset that I’m a student and CCA is not my major. I used to focus more on CCAs instead of studies ‘automatically’, because of bad prioritization and peer pressure from all CCA groups. Now, I have made my mind that I will be a student first, and not let anybody to influence me so easily. Once I’ve decided what to do, for example what CCAs to join, I will not join anymore just because my friends ask me to. I wrote ‘BE A STUDENT FIRST’ on the notice board in my room to remind myself that spending more time on studies compared to what I used to do. I asked few friends to be my study buddies too. They will remind me to look out for my studies and go to study together. The first two weeks were my test weeks for this new trail. So far I have been doing good. I will keep it up and stay focused all the time.

Secondly, to live in a more organized life, planning is very important, and it helps me to manage the time well. I started plan for the following week in this semester, and follow the plan as strictly as possible. I plan to have some buffer time too, so I can pause, relax a bit and be prepared for the next session. Of course there are changes when I actually execute the plan, I use the buffer time to complete the task I missed. Postponing everything is not a solution. My solution is finishing the weekly tasks on time, and changes the plan accordingly. If I can do this for the whole semester, then the whole year, I will be benefit from it a lot.

Besides choice making and time management, keeping the promises to myself is equally essential for me now. I promise to myself, so nobody else will know whether I kept the promise.  It’s hard but simple to achieve the goal. What I’m doing now is making a promise checklist, reward myself after achieving one goal. Hope that I can continue in this way and make it a habit, so that in the future, keeping the promises to myself will not be so difficult to do.

It’s difficult yet important to start everything right from the beginning. I’m changing in this new semester, and I will continue to di it till it becomes a habit. Wish me all the best for a more organized semester ahead.
